The Canadian Kyokushin's Winter Camp was held for three days
from March 16th, 2007. This was the first time for me to join
Winter Camp in my Kyokushin life, so I could not imagine what
would happen. Sempai Katrina was kind enough to drive me
along with her students to the camp place, Peachland in
Alberta. It was a long way and I was very surprised when I got
there because snow stretched far on the horizon as far as I
could see. In addition, making fire at a fireplace and
sleeping in a sleeping bag in such a cold winter were also my
first experiences. However it was more comfortable than I had
imagined. The lodge which we trained at and the meals served
for all participants were awesome.
 We
started training at 6 o'clock in the morning. It was really
cold because of snow, but everyone tried to train hard under
the starry sky. During the training, the sky was dawning
little by little. It was amazing! Six training sessions were
held during the Camp and they were hard. We learned Kihon
techniques, Bo, Goshin-jutsu, Ido, kumite, and kata. Some of
the techniques were new and exciting for me. A lot of them
were very complicated as well. They told me how interesting
Kyokushin could be if you practiced all the different aspects
of it. There was Dan Candidate interviews held on Saturday
night. I did not attend it, but I felt good tension and ardor.
This Winter Camp was a very good opportunity to improve my
skills and communicate with students from other dojos. I
think everyone from white belt to black belt enjoyed this Camp
very much!

The difference of Kyokushin between Japan and Canada that I
feel is the age of people. In Canada, there are a lot of older
students who train hard to acquire black belt. I did not
realize until now that Karate could be a sport which we could
practice through our whole life. They encourage me to continue
my journey in Karate. Also everyone has passion for Kyokushin
and teaches their own knowledge to other students regardless
the color of the belt.
At first I did not have any acquaintances in Vancouver
Kyokushin, so I was a little worried. However through my dojo,
Banff Black Belt Conference, Vancouver Cup, Newton tournament,
and this Winter Camp, I made a lot of friends. I really
appreciate to have joined Canadian Kyokushin. Osu! Rima
