Alex trains two times a week at the Richmond East Dojo and operates his own dojo in Vancouver Marpole. He originally began training in his home country, Russia. In 1993, Alex and his family moved to Vancouver. Upon his arrival in Canada, he joined RED run by Shihan Les Banas at that time. In 2004, Alex successfully completed a 10-man kumite at summer camp and was granted Black Belt. His son, John, inspired by the father's success, joined RED shortly after. The father of two strives to find time to train and never forgets to challenge himself. In 2008, Alex succeeded in the Canadian Championships by entering the open kata division. In 2009, Alex succeeded in a 20-man kumite and received 2nd Dan Black Belt.
